Goyal Urges Leather Sector to Aim for $50 Billion in Exports by 2030

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday set an ambitious target for India’s leather and footwear industry, urging them to aim for $50 billion in exports by 2030. Addressing industry leaders, Goyal emphasized the importance of capitalizing on recently signed free trade agreements (FTAs) to achieve this goal.
India has recently implemented FTAs with key markets like Australia and the United Arab Emirates, providing the leather sector with expanded access to global markets. Goyal encouraged the industry to leverage these agreements to boost exports and enhance their global footprint.
He also stressed the need for the sector to focus on manufacturing high-quality, world-class products that can compete internationally. “By setting our sights high and focusing on excellence, the leather industry can significantly increase its contribution to India’s export economy,” Goyal said.
The minister’s call to action comes as the Indian government continues to push for increased exports across various sectors to drive economic growth and create jobs. The leather and footwear industry, which has a rich heritage in India, is seen as having significant untapped potential in global markets.
Goyal’s message was clear: with strategic use of trade agreements and a commitment to quality, the leather sector can play a key role in India’s export growth story over the coming decade.
