Government Approves ₹13,595 Crore Transmission Projects for Renewable Energy

In a significant move aimed at bolstering India’s renewable energy infrastructure, the government has given its nod to transmission projects worth ₹13,595 crore. These projects are set to facilitate the seamless integration and distribution of renewable energy across the country, marking a pivotal step towards achieving sustainable energy goals.

The approval for these transmission projects was announced following a high-level meeting chaired by the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy. The projects are strategically designed to strengthen the transmission network, ensuring efficient evacuation of power generated from renewable sources such as solar and wind.

“The approval of ₹13,595 crore transmission projects underscores the government’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions,” stated a senior official from the Ministry of Power. “These projects will play a crucial role in enhancing grid connectivity and reliability, facilitating the transmission of clean energy to consumers nationwide.”

The transmission projects include the development of high-capacity transmission corridors and substation infrastructure across various states. These initiatives are expected to alleviate existing bottlenecks in the transmission system, thereby enabling smoother integration of renewable energy into the grid.

India has been rapidly expanding its renewable energy capacity to meet its ambitious targets under the Paris Agreement and the National Action Plan on Climate Change. The approval of these transmission projects is a testament to the government’s proactive measures in supporting the growth of renewable energy infrastructure.

“With these transmission projects, we aim to strengthen our transmission network and ensure robust connectivity for renewable energy projects,” the official added. “This will not only enhance energy security but also contribute significantly to reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.”

The announcement has been welcomed by industry stakeholders and renewable energy developers, who see it as a crucial enabler for scaling up investments in clean energy projects. The projects are expected to create employment opportunities and boost economic growth in the renewable energy sector.
