FMCG Distributors Seek Scrutiny of Quick Commerce Growth

FMCG distributors have voiced serious concerns about the unchecked expansion of quick commerce platforms, urging an immediate investigation into their operations. In a letter to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, the All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPDF) highlighted the rapid and unregulated growth of these platforms, which offer ultra-fast delivery of goods within 10 to 30 minutes.

The AICPDF argues that this swift expansion is creating an “uneven playing field” that threatens the livelihoods of millions of small retailers and distributors who have long been integral to India’s retail sector. They also raised concerns about potential violations of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) regulations by these quick commerce companies.

The distributors’ body has called for a thorough examination of the operational models of these platforms to ensure fair competition and adherence to regulatory standards. This move reflects growing apprehension within the industry regarding the impact of emerging business models on traditional retail operations.
