Filmmaker Arfaz Ayub to Tackle NE Migrant Workers’ Struggles in Next Hindi Film

After the success of his Malayalam psychological thriller Level Cross, filmmaker Arfaz Ayub is set to explore a new cinematic landscape with his next project—an indie Hindi film focusing on the struggles of migrant workers from Northeast India who move to Kerala for work.

Speaking to PTI at the 1st Guwahati Asian Film Festival, Ayub revealed his desire to experiment with different genres in every film he makes. His transition from a psychological thriller to a socially relevant narrative underscores his commitment to diverse storytelling.

“I want to change my genre. The next film I am planning is a Hindi feature film, very indie, which is based on the Northeast. In a way, being here is a kind of manifestation,” Ayub stated.

The upcoming film aims to shed light on the socio-political realities faced by Northeast migrants seeking employment opportunities in Kerala. Ayub’s decision to tackle this subject highlights his growing interest in stories that reflect contemporary issues and marginalized voices.

With his new project, the young filmmaker hopes to bring attention to the challenges and resilience of migrant workers, offering a fresh perspective on an often-overlooked segment of Indian society.
