Exotic Primate Enclosure Inaugurated at Nandankanan Zoo

In a significant boost to wildlife conservation and tourism, an exotic primate enclosure was inaugurated at the Nandankanan Zoological Park near Bhubaneswar on Sunday. Odisha’s Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia formally opened the new facility, which houses seven species of primates from across the globe.

The enclosure, designed to replicate the primates’ natural habitat, aims to provide a comfortable environment for the animals while offering visitors an engaging and educational experience. Among the species showcased are lemurs, gibbons, and tamarins, known for their vibrant appearances and unique behaviors.

Speaking at the event, Minister Khuntia highlighted the importance of the enclosure in promoting wildlife awareness and attracting more tourists to the zoo. “This initiative not only enhances the biodiversity of Nandankanan but also strengthens our commitment to wildlife conservation. We are confident it will become a major attraction for visitors,” he said.

The newly developed space allows guests to observe the primates up close while ensuring the animals’ safety and well-being. It features enriched habitats with climbing structures, foliage, and water bodies to encourage natural behaviors.

A Boost for Tourism

Nandankanan Zoological Park, already a popular destination, is expected to see a rise in footfall with the addition of this unique enclosure. Visitors have expressed excitement about the opportunity to see exotic primates in an environment that mimics their native settings.

Zoo officials also plan to introduce educational programs focusing on the role of primates in ecosystems and the challenges they face in the wild, furthering the zoo’s mission to foster conservation awareness among the public.

As Nandankanan continues to expand its offerings, the new primate enclosure is poised to become a highlight, drawing wildlife enthusiasts and tourists alike to experience its wonders.
