Dharmendra Pradhan Releases 55 Literary Works in Classical Indian Languages
Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday released 55 literary works in classical Indian languages, including Tamil, Odia, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Indian Sign Language, in New Delhi, marking a significant step towards preserving and promoting India’s rich linguistic heritage.
The releases comprise 41 books developed by the Centres of Excellence for Classical Languages under the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), along with 13 books and a Tirukkural Sign Language series brought out by the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT). The collection features important scholarly works across multiple classical languages and includes an interpretation of the Tirukkural in Indian Sign Language, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive access to knowledge.
Addressing the gathering, Pradhan said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has taken extensive measures to strengthen and promote Indian languages, including expanding the scheduled list, translating classical texts, and encouraging education in Indian languages. He noted that Indian languages have endured despite historical attempts to undermine them.
The Minister подчеркed that India’s linguistic diversity is a defining feature of its democracy and culture, and stressed the collective responsibility to preserve the nation’s historical, cultural, and literary wealth for future generations. He reiterated that languages act as a unifying force and recalled the Prime Minister’s emphasis that all Indian languages are national languages.
Highlighting the inclusion of the Tirukkural in Sign Language, Pradhan said the initiative advances the vision of an inclusive India by ensuring wider access to classical knowledge. He added that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 strongly supports education in Indian languages and reflects India’s ethos of unity in diversity.
Pradhan congratulated the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, CIIL, CICT, and the Centres of Excellence for their efforts in promoting Indian languages. The event was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Education, academicians, and representatives of cultural institutions.
