Crime Against Women Drops in Odisha

Crime Against Women Declines in Odisha Under BJP Government: CM Majhi

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday claimed that crimes against women and children have significantly declined in Odisha since the BJP government took office in June 2024. He made the statement while participating in a debate on the budgetary demand of the Home Department in the Odisha Assembly.

Highlighting the crime statistics, Majhi stated that incidents of misbehavior towards women have fallen by 3.9 per cent, sexual harassment cases have decreased by 13.5 per cent, public disrobing of women has dropped by 22.3 per cent, trafficking cases have reduced by 29.4 per cent, and instances of eve-teasing have declined by 3.8 per cent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

“Our government has taken decisive steps to ensure the safety and security of women and children in the state. The reduction in crime rates is a testament to our commitment to law and order,” Majhi asserted.

He criticized opposition parties for failing to acknowledge the positive changes brought about under the BJP administration. “Despite these improvements, the opposition remains blind to the reality of our governance. We are dedicated to strengthening the safety of our people and will continue to implement measures to curb crime further,” the chief minister said.

The BJP government has introduced several initiatives aimed at enhancing women’s security, including increased police patrolling, stricter enforcement of laws, and the establishment of dedicated helplines and support centers for victims.

The chief minister’s statement comes at a time when crime against women remains a pressing concern across the country. The opposition is expected to scrutinize these claims, but the government stands firm in its assertion that Odisha is witnessing a positive transformation under its rule.
