Congress Accuses BJP of Furthering RSS Agenda Through Odisha CM

New Delhi: The Congress has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of advancing the agenda of its ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), through Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who belongs to the tribal community.

Citing a purported statement made by Majhi, Congress MP Saptagiri Ulaka claimed that crimes, including incidents of rape, have surged since the BJP government took power in Odisha. He also alleged that the government’s policies are working against the interests of the tribal population.

“The BJP made a tribal (Majhi) the chief minister, but the agenda is of the RSS. The chief minister has recently made a comment about tribal women which is shameful,” Ulaka said. He further demanded an apology from Majhi for his alleged remarks.

The controversy comes as the BJP attempts to consolidate its support base in Odisha, where it ended the 24-year rule of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in the recent assembly elections. Majhi, a three-time MLA from Keonjhar, was sworn in as the first tribal CM of the state.

The Congress has frequently accused the BJP of using tribal leaders as mere figureheads while implementing policies that allegedly align with the RSS’s ideological objectives. However, the BJP has dismissed these allegations, maintaining that its government is committed to the welfare of all sections of society, including tribals.

The remarks by Ulaka have further fueled political tensions in Odisha, with opposition parties sharpening their attacks on the newly formed BJP-led government. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s Office has yet to issue a response to the allegations.
