Chaos Erupts at Maharashtra Kesari Wrestling Finals; Loser Kicks Referee

The final bouts of the 67th ‘Maharashtra Kesari’ wrestling competition on Sunday descended into chaos when one wrestler kicked a referee on the chest, while another engaged in verbal abuse over the loss of points.

The tournament, held in Ahilyanagar, witnessed ugly scenes when Pune-based wrestler Prithviraj Mohol was declared the winner in the mat category semi-final. His opponent, Shivraj Rakshe, contested the decision and, in a fit of rage, verbally abused the referee before delivering a kick to the official’s chest.

The incident occurred in front of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol, who were present at the event. The shocking display of aggression tarnished the atmosphere of what was supposed to be a prestigious sporting competition.

Witnesses reported that Rakshe’s frustration stemmed from his belief that he had been unfairly penalized in the match, leading to the heated outburst. The referee, though shaken, managed to maintain control of the situation.

The organizers of the tournament condemned the behavior, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and respect for officials. No immediate action has been taken against the wrestlers involved, but further investigations are expected.

The incident has sparked widespread debate about the conduct of participants in Indian wrestling competitions, with many calling for stricter rules and penalties to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
