Centre Sanctions ₹201 Crore for Odisha’s Disaster Preparedness

In a significant move to bolster Odisha’s disaster preparedness, the Union Government has sanctioned ₹201.10 crore for the expansion and modernisation of the state’s fire and emergency services. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Maji on Monday, highlighting the Centre’s commitment to enhancing the state’s emergency response infrastructure.
Taking to social media platform X, the Chief Minister’s Office expressed gratitude for the financial support. “Further strengthening #Odisha’s disaster resilience, the Government of India has sanctioned ₹201.10 Cr to support the expansion and modernisation of the state’s fire and emergency services. Thanks to Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi and Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah for prioritising the safety and welfare of Odisha’s citizens,” read the post.
This funding is expected to improve the state’s ability to respond to natural calamities such as cyclones, floods, and other emergencies, which Odisha faces frequently. The state government plans to utilise the funds to procure advanced firefighting and rescue equipment, set up new fire stations, and enhance the training of fire personnel.
