The government has officially denied an extension to P K Purwar, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). Sources indicate that the additional charge is likely to be handed over to Robert J Ravi, a senior officer from the Department of Telecom (DoT).

Purwar has been at the helm of BSNL since July 2019, serving a five-year term, and had applied for an extension. However, the DoT is currently deliberating on the matter and has not reached a decision regarding the extension request.

“DoT is considering appointing DDG Robert J Ravi as the additional charge of BSNL CMD. No decision has been made about the current CMD’s extension,” an official source stated.

As BSNL continues to navigate challenges in the competitive telecom sector, the leadership transition will be closely watched. The appointment of Robert J Ravi, if finalized, could bring new strategies and perspectives to the state-owned enterprise as it seeks to strengthen its position in the market.
