Body Exhumed in Odisha Over Alleged Organ Theft by Private Hospital
The Odisha Police have exhumed the body of a 44-year-old man, who recently died in a road accident in Kalahandi district, amid allegations of organ theft by his family. The post-mortem was ordered after the deceased’s son raised concerns about suspicious surgery marks on his father’s abdomen.
The man, who had suffered severe head injuries in the accident, was initially treated at a private hospital in Cuttack. His son later filed a complaint, claiming that despite his father’s head trauma, there were unexplained incisions on his abdomen.
“We suspect that the hospital authorities might have removed some of my father’s organs,” the son stated in his complaint.
Acting on the complaint, the police launched an investigation, and the body was exhumed for further examination to determine if any organs were indeed removed without consent.
A senior police official confirmed that a thorough probe is underway, and the post-mortem report will be crucial in verifying the family’s claims. The hospital in question has yet to comment on the allegations.
The incident has sparked concerns about illegal organ trafficking in the state, with local authorities vowing to take swift action if any wrongdoing is uncovered.
