BJP leader seeks ban on ‘The Taj Story’

BJP leader seeks ban on film ‘The Taj Story’, claims it’s based on his court petition

BJP leader Rajneesh Singh from Ayodhya has approached the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), demanding a ban on the upcoming film The Taj Story, starring veteran actor Paresh Rawal.

Singh has alleged that the film’s plot is based on the same subject as a petition he filed in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, which sought the opening of 22 locked rooms inside the Taj Mahal. The petition claimed that the monument was originally a Hindu temple and urged the formation of a committee under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to investigate the matter.

The court had dismissed Singh’s plea in May 2022, observing that it was not within its jurisdiction to determine historical facts through such petitions.

Calling the film “an attempt to distort facts and sensationalize a sensitive issue,” Singh stated that he has submitted a formal complaint to both the I&B Ministry and the CBFC, urging authorities to prevent its release until the matter is reviewed.

Neither the filmmakers nor Paresh Rawal have issued any official response to the BJP leader’s allegations.
