BJD Denies Allegations of Adani Group Bribes to Odisha Officials

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday refuted allegations that state government officials had accepted bribes from the Adani Group for the supply of renewable energy from the central pool to Odisha.

Describing the accusations as “false and not based on facts,” the party, which held power in Odisha from 2000 until June 2024, emphasized the lack of direct involvement by state officials. A BJD spokesperson pointed out that Odisha’s power distribution system had been privatized during its administration, making the government unconnected to agreements related to renewable energy procurement.

“The situation in Odisha is distinct from other states, as the privatisation of power distribution removed direct governmental oversight from these transactions,” the BJD clarified.

Responding to the issue, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan of the BJP-led government assured that all necessary steps would be taken to investigate the alleged bribery case.

The allegations have triggered a political row, with opposition parties demanding a thorough probe into the claims.
