Bijay Kumar Mohanty Passes Away: Senior BJD Leader and Former MLA

Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former Odisha Legislative Assembly member, Bijay Kumar Mohanty, passed away on Sunday afternoon at the age of 60. Mohanty, who represented the Bhubaneswar-Central constituency, was found unresponsive at a guest house and was rushed to Capital Hospital, where he was declared brought dead by medical authorities.

Dr. Dhananjaya Das, Superintendent of Capital Hospital, stated, “Mohanty was brought to the hospital, and despite all efforts, he was declared dead. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.”

Mohanty, a two-time MLA elected on a BJD ticket in the 2009 and 2014 state elections, was known for his dedication to public service and significant contributions to the development of Bhubaneswar. His sudden demise has left the political community in shock.

BJP national vice president and Kendrapara MP, Baijayant Panda, expressed his condolences on social media, writing, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of senior politician Bijay Kumar Mohanty. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. Om Shanti.”

The news of Mohanty’s death has left a void in the political landscape of Odisha, with leaders from various parties paying tribute to his legacy.
