Arms and Ammunition Seized in Odisha’s Malkangiri District
Malkangiri, Jan 12 (UNI): Odisha Police seized a significant cache of arms and ammunition from a dense forest in Malkangiri district, suspected to be linked to Maoist activities. The discovery was made during a search operation conducted by the District Voluntary Force (DVF) personnel in the Jinelguda forest area, under the jurisdiction of MV-79 police station, on Saturday.
According to Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Sharma, the arms dump was unearthed when DVF personnel were combing the forest region. The recovered items, which were buried underground, included a self-loading rifle, two magazines, four ammunition charger clips, 50 rounds of 7.62 mm SLR ball ammunition, and two rounds of .303 ball ammunition. Other items found in the cache included a magazine pouch, daily-use items, a syringe, a mobile phone with a SIM card, and Maoist literature.
The police suspect that the arms cache was part of a Maoist supply network operating in the area. Further investigations are underway to identify those responsible for storing the arms and to assess any potential threat posed by the seized materials.
This operation is part of Odisha’s ongoing efforts to counter Maoist insurgency and enhance security in the region, which has been a hotspot for Maoist activities. The successful recovery of these weapons is expected to disrupt Maoist operations in Malkangiri and surrounding areas.
