All-India Consumer Price Index for Agricultural and Rural Labourers March-April 2024

New Delhi, 7th June 2024: The Labour Bureau, operating under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, has released the All-India Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Agricultural Labourers (AL) and Rural Labourers (RL) for March and April 2024. This index is compiled monthly based on retail price data collected from 600 villages across 20 states in India.

In March 2024, both CPI-AL and CPI-RL rose by 1 point, reaching 1259 and 1270, respectively. In April 2024, CPI-AL increased by 4 points to 1263, while CPI-RL rose by 5 points to 1275.

Year-on-year inflation rates for March 2024 were recorded at 7.15% for CPI-AL and 7.08% for CPI-RL. By April 2024, inflation moderated slightly to 7.03% for CPI-AL and 6.96% for CPI-RL.

Group-wise analysis for February-April 2024 highlighted increases across Food, Pan, Supari, Fuel & Light, Clothing, Bedding & Footwear, and Miscellaneous categories, reflecting varying cost pressures on agricultural and rural labourers.
