Akshay Responds to Jaya’s Toilet Criticism

Akshay Kumar Reacts to Jaya Bachchan’s Criticism of ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, known for his socially driven films, responded diplomatically to veteran actress and politician Jaya Bachchan’s reported criticism of the title of his 2017 film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.

During a recent media interaction, Akshay initially dismissed the notion that his socially relevant films faced criticism. “I don’t think anyone has criticised my films, koi bewakoof hi hoga aisi criticise karega (only a fool would do that). I’ve made Padman, Airlift, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Kesari, and Kesari 2. These films are made from the heart and aim to teach valuable lessons,” he said.

However, when a journalist pointed out Jaya Bachchan’s disapproval of the film’s title, the actor quickly softened his stance. “If she has said it, then it must be right. I don’t know. If I have made a mistake by making a film like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and she feels that way, then it must be right,” Akshay added, choosing to respect the senior figure’s opinion.

Jaya Bachchan had reportedly expressed discomfort with the film’s title despite acknowledging its message. She felt that the title could have been more dignified, considering the serious subject of sanitation and women’s rights.

Released in 2017, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha focused on the importance of hygiene and sanitation in rural India and was inspired by true events. The film was both a commercial success and a part of the Swachh Bharat (Clean India) awareness movement.
