Odisha CM Directs BMC to Draft Rs 200 Cr Plan for Urban Flooding Mitigation
BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has instructed the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to devise a comprehensive Rs 200 crore action plan to address urban flooding issues in the state capital.
Chairing a state-level Natural Calamity Committee meeting, Chief Minister Majhi emphasized the urgency of tackling flood-like situations that arise in urban areas, especially after light to moderate rainfall.
“After reviewing the situation, it is crucial to take proactive steps to mitigate urban flooding in Bhubaneswar and surrounding areas. The BMC has been tasked with preparing a detailed proposal amounting to Rs 200 crore, which will be submitted for government approval,” stated Chief Minister Majhi during a press briefing following the meeting.
The proposed action plan aims to bolster infrastructure and implement measures aimed at minimizing the impact of flooding during monsoon seasons. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing urban resilience and ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.
Further details regarding specific projects and timelines for implementation are expected to be outlined once the BMC submits its comprehensive proposal.
