16th Finance Commission Team Begins Four-Day Visit to Odisha

An eight-member delegation from the 16th Finance Commission, led by Chairman Dr. Arvind Panagariya, commenced its four-day visit to Odisha on Tuesday. The team will engage in discussions with state government officials and review financial proposals submitted by the administration.
During the visit, the commission members will hold detailed deliberations with state authorities before finalizing their report. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated that the state government has submitted a memorandum seeking financial assistance of ₹12,56,148 crore for the next five years. The proposal had earlier received approval from the state cabinet.
The discussions will focus on key financial and developmental priorities, including infrastructure, welfare schemes, and fiscal policies to support the state’s economic growth. The Finance Commission’s recommendations will play a crucial role in determining the financial allocation for Odisha in the coming years.
